JH Friends Collection: The Movie (or simply George Gipson's JH Friends Collection: The Movie) is a 2023 American computer-animated crossover action-adventure film produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Movie Land Animation Studios, directed by George Gipson and Jarelle Dampier and written by Qui Nguyen, Adele Lim and Nicholas Stoller. It is the first film installment in the JH Friends Collection series.

JH Friends Collection: The Movie premiered at the Atlanta Film Festival in Georgia on November 17, 2023, was released in China on November 24 and in the United States on December 22. The film received acclaim from critics and grossed over $774 million worldwide. A sequel, The Backup Mashup, is in development.

Character animation and computer graphics were made at Movie Land Digital Production Services and Kumar Coca, while Fortiche handled the end title animation sequences, with production underway by February 2021.

Music

On April 13, 2023, Henry Jackman announced to composed the music score for the film, after previously working with George Gipson on The JH Movie Collection Movie: Homecoming, along with Don Diablo, who collaborated with George Gipson and worked with Jackman from the JH Movie Collection: The Great Outdoors short "Crackle Goes Street Racing". The film soundtrack album is set to be released on December 8, 2023.

JH Friends Collection: The Movie’s world premiere took place on November 17, 2023, as the grand summit matinee of the Atlanta Film Festival expo in Georgia. It was released first in China on November 24. In July 2023, it was reported that Sony was considering postponing some of their 2023 releases, including JH Friends Collection: The Movie, due to the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes. It was also initially scheduled for release on August 18, 2023, but was postponed to December 15 to avoid competition with Strays also produced by Lord and Miller, before being delayed a week to its current date. In theaters, the film was accompanied with the Tom the Hand short film, Birds.

In April 2021, Sony signed deals with Netflix and Disney for the rights to their 2022 to 2026 film slate, following the films' theatrical and home media windows. Netflix signed for exclusive "pay 1 window" streaming rights, which is typically an 18-month window and included JH Friends Collection: The Movie; this deal built on an existing output deal that Netflix had signed with Sony Pictures Animation in 2014. Disney signed for "pay 2 window" rights for the films, which would be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu as well as broadcast on Disney's linear television networks.

On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, 97% of 8.1 critics gave the film a positive review, with an average rating of 10/10. Using a weighted average calculator, Metacritic assigned the film a score of 82 out of 100, based on 12 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".

Sequel

On January 17, 2024, depending on when the film became a success, MLAS stated that a sequel will be in production on May 26, 2024 under their working title JH Friends Collection 2: The Backup Mashup, with Ella Purnell and Karen Fukuhara will reprise their roles as Jinx and Kipo Oak, respectively. On May 26, 2024, Sony and Movie Land announced that a sequel is in production, with George Gipson returning to direct, while Leo Riley and Bret Haaland being served as directors, replacing Jarelle Dampier from the first film. On June 8, 2024, Movie Land announced to include its additional characters.
