Mech Cadets is a 2023 American science fiction action film based on the comic book series Mech Cadet Yu written by Greg Pak and drawn by Takeshi Miyazawa. The film was directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who co-wrote the screenplay with Evan Spiliotopoulos, Adele Lim and Qui Nguyen from a story by Lin and Nguyen, and stars Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Chloë Grace Moretz, Jamie Chung, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rafael Petardi, and Chris Pine. It is a live-action film adaptation of the animated series of its same name. Filming began in January 2021 in Germany with a $90 million production budget and wrapped in December 2022.
Mech Cadets was released in China on November 3, 2023 and was theatrically released in the United States on December 8, 2023. The film received positive reviews from critics and grossed over $612 million worldwide against its $90 million budget. A sequel and a second season of the animated series its same name are in development.

Filming[]
On a production budget of $90 million, principal photography began in Germany on January 12, 2021, with Bill Pope as cinematographers, and COVID-19 safety precautions in place. Some of the movie scenes were also recorded in the fortress city of Japan. Phantom camera cinematographers also began filming slow-motion scenes at VIA Films in Yamhill County, Oregon and also at the Pinewood Studios lot in London. Filming wrapped on December 27, 2022.
Visual effects and post-production[]
The film's visual effects and animation for the robos such as Buddy, Hero Force One, Thunderwrecker, Big Red, and the shargs were provided by Movie Land Digital Production Services, DNEG, Wētā FX, and Folks VFX. Ren Klyce from Skywalker Sound and D.J. Lynch from Sound Rebels, provided the ship's sound effects, describing them as "a dance, is probably the nice way to say it, between music and sound, and it's never a fight".

On July 17, 2023, Goldstein confirmed on the film's Twitter account that Henry Jackman was hired to score the film. On August 19, 2023, MLAS announced to join Jackman with Rupert Gregson-Williams, Lorne Balfe (after previously working with Goldstein and Daley on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Brian Tyler and Tom Holkenborg. The soundtrack was digitally released by Monstercat on November 24, 2023, while the score album was released by Sony Classical on December 1, 2023.

The film's teaser trailer premiered online on May 17, 2023. The film's first trailer premiered on July 21, 2023, a week after the beginning of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which was shown in theaters in front of Barbie and Haunted Mansion. The film's final trailer premiered on September 29, 2023, which was shown in theaters in front of PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie and The Creator.
