Movie Land Entertainment (MLE) is an American film production company that is a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment. Based in Los Angeles, California, it produces the live-action feature films. The studio was founded on August 8, 2011 by Ted V. Miller.
History[]
Movie Land Entertainment was founded by Ted V. Miller on August 8, 2011. Ever since films like Pixar's WALL-E and Paramount's The Last Airbender were released, Movie Land Entertainment always wanted to produce an live action film. A handful of employees were offered positions doing live-action film, visual effects and animation, since they are creating the movie title at the studio. On May 1, 2013, Movie Land Entertainment was affected by the proposed acquisition of Movie Land by Warner Bros., announced as planned in October 2, 2011 and concluded on April 30, 2013.
Sale to Sony[]
On December 3, 2022, Sony entered negotiations to acquire MLE and even made a bid for about $9 billion, with the intention to own the studio's library, including Movie Land Entertainment's films, to grow the Columbia Pictures catalog. On December 12, 2022, it was officially announced that the studio will be acquired by Sony Pictures for $8.45 billion. The merger is set to finalize on October 6, 2023.
