Sally Bollywood is a 2022 computer-animated mystery adventure comedy film based on the show Sally Bollywood: Super Detective created by Emmanuelle Boutet and Elastik Jane, produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, Zodiak Kids Studios and Movie Land Animation Studios in association with Kumar Coca, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The sixth film to be produced by Kumar Coca, the film was directed by Peter Ramsey from a screenplay by Robert Zemeckis, Rodney Rothman and Jordan Peele. It stars Jennifer Lawrence as Sally and Mena Massoud as Doowee.
Sally Bollywood premiered in Seattle, Washington on February 4, 2022 and was theatrically released in the United States by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on February 25. The film received positive reviews from critics for its animation, screenplay, entertainment value for families, modernization and originality from the TV series. Sally Bollywood became a commercial success and sets several box-office records, including the biggest opening weekend during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and grossed $419.8 million worldwide on its $70 million budget, making it the eighth highest-grossing films of 2022. A sequel is scheduled to be released on March 7, 2025, with Banijay and its Kids & Family subsidiary replaced Zodiak Kids Studios due to its rebrand.
Plot[]
Sally, a young 12 year-old Indian girl who lives in the city of Cosmopolis, where people of different nationalities and ethnic groups make up the population. Her father, Harry Bollywood, is a private detective, which has inspired Sally to start her own investigative service, Sally Bollywood Investigations (SBI), located in the basement of their home. Sally and her best friend Doowee McAdam generally investigate cases brought to them by their schoolmates by travelling around their local neighbourhood, with Sally using her skills of deduction and Doowee using technology he invents.

- Jennifer Lawrence as Sally Bollywood, a young 12 year-old Indian girl detective who investigates primarily by asking people questions. She has purple plum hair. She speaks with an Australian accent in the English dub. She's also a huge fan of the Fuzzy Frogs. She lives in Cosmopilos. She is Indian.
- Mena Massoud as Doowee MacAdam, a boy who is Sally's best friend. He assists Sally with her investigations, often by using technology invented by himself. He has red hair. He also likes the Fuzzy Frogs.

- Ciara Janson as Jasmine Gupta, a girl who used to be the SBI's intern but got kicked out when she sorted Sally's papers incorrectly. She is snobbish and narcissistic. She is Rahani's sister and Alma is her best friend.
The Fuzzy Frogs[]
The Fuzzy Frogs is a school rock band. They used to be a boy band until the frogs realized how much Jenny wanted to be a member. The group makes rock music and has a huge following of mostly girls (although Doowee is a fan too). Groupies often mob them.

- Tom Kane as Harry Bollywood, Sally's father, a private detective who inspired Sally to begin her own investigation service. He often worries about Sally taking on cases, but is honored that she has chosen to follow in his footsteps. He also has purple hair.
- Glenn Close as Mrs. Apu, An older woman who is a friend of Harry. She acts as the Bollywoods' housekeeper and often offers advice to Sally, Doowee and other characters. She's sort of a mother figure for Sally. She also loves cooking and enjoys experimenting with new recipes.

Development[]
Plans for Sally Bollywood movie were announced in December 2015, and was to follow Sally Bollywood's origins over a Mumbai backdrop. The film was to be produced by Chris J. Columbus and Amy Pascal, from a script written by Robert Zemeckis, Rodney Rothman and Jordan Peele. On April 23, 2018, plans shifted from a computer-animated film, and was to stay "in the same vein as the source material".
In October 2018, it was announced that Peter Ramsey would direct a computer-animated film for Sony Pictures Animation, which would begin filming in July 2019. It was reported that Ramsey was in discussions with Sony executives about what he was interested in directing, even before directing the new Grossology film. When Sally Bollywood movie was brought up, Story immediately "mentioned his admiration for the characters and how he’d love tackling that property."
In November 2018, Movie Land Animation Studios and MLDPS India (now "Kumar Coca") announced that a Sally Bollywood movie is in production, which the project will start on July 3, 2019, and ended on December 25, 2020.

On May 2, 2019, it was announced that Jennifer Lawrence will voice as the title character while Mena Massoud will voice as Doowee.
Animation and design[]
The film is set in a fictional city called Cosmopolis. Luigi Lucarelli was signed to design the characters from the movie. Unlike Krishna and the Last Lion, animation services will be fully created by Kumar Coca, who hired computer animators, with Vanitha Rangaraju will be served as a visual effects supervisor.
Music[]
On July 22, 2020, it was announced that BTS were served as a music producer. In December 2020, Henry Jackman, Lorne Balfe, Tom Holkenborg and Rupert Gregson-Williams, Movie Land's frequent composer, were announced to compose the film's music score. The soundtrack was released on February 25, 2022, coincide the film's release.
Release[]
Sally Bollywood was released in the United States on February 25, 2022, in IMAX and other premium large formats. It was originally set for release on February 4, 2022. The film was then moved three weeks later to February 25, 2022 due to William's absence and Jerry's 1/26/22 online school, as of January 25, 2022.

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 89% of 170 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6/10. Using a weighted average calculator, Metacritic assigned the film a score of 74 out of 100, based on 140 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews.
Sequel[]
On March 2022, it was announced that a Sally Bollywood sequel is in production, with James Yang being served as director, replacing Peter Ramsey, while Rodney Rothman returned as a screenwriter. Joanna Lewis and Qui Nguyen also replaced Robert Zemeckis and Jordan Peele as a screenwriter. It is scheduled to be released on March 7, 2025.
