The Bellas VFX Studios is an American visual effects and animation company that was founded in West Hollywood, California by the screenwriter Kay Cannon on July 3, 2013, following the critical and box-office success of the 2012 musical comedy film directed by Jason Moore, Pitch Perfect, with Joshua K. Dominguez served as a president. The company was named after the fictional band character, The Bellas. It has contained 2,000 employees and created its work on Go Touching 6 (2013).
History[]
Development[]
The Bellas VFX Studios was headquartered in West Hollywood, California with additional locations in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, London, Bangalore, Frankfurt, and Stuttgart. Without the involvement of Movie Land Animation Studios until December 2014, it's first project was Go Touching 6, released in December 2013 as an additional vendors, with MLDPS San Francisco takes the lead.
International expansions[]
On July 16, 2021, The Bellas VFX Studios India has merged into Kumar Coca after Movie Land re-established its Bangalore subsidiary.
Lawsuits and closure[]
On March 1, 2023, Universal Pictures, who had been collaborated with Gold Circle Films on the Pitch Perfect franchise, along with NBCUniversal, sued The Bellas VFX Studios for mentioning the fictional band characters of its same name and due to the strings of recent box-office bombs, such as Gwen and Dan and Las Vegas, and for someone that criticized the Pitch Perfect film series. A week later, NBCUniversal forced Movie Land to shut down The Bellas VFX Studios on May 5, 2023, which operations will fold the company into Fortiche and MLDPS San Francisco. This made Animals vs. Monsters: Most Wanted the first film to be made at MLDPS San Francisco itself under their frequent companies, such as Kumar Coca, La Femme Rouge VFX, Studio Mir, 88 Pictures, and Fortiche, instead of the Bellas VFX Studios.
However, its last work made by the Bellas VFX Studios before its closure was The Rodriguez's Macaw, which was released on April 28, 2023.
After closure[]
As of July 30, 2023, the Bellas VFX Studios' website now redirects to MLDPS.com. On August 6, 2023, Carmen Sandiego director Jos Humphrey merged the Bellas VFX Studios was into La Femme Rouge VFX.
