Tom the Hand 5 is a 2021 American live-action/computer-animated action-adventure film produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Movie Land Animation Studios, distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, and it is directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada, co-directed by Peter Ramsey, written by Qui Nguyen, Adele Lim, Rodney Rothman, music composed by Henry Jackman, and starring the voices of Brian Hull, Jim Carrey, Jimmy Wong, Will Ferrell, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Lizzie Waterworth, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Josh Gad, Jamie Chung, Jon Lee, Ryan Potter, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jack Black.

Tom the Hand 5 premiered in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 10, 2021 and was theatrically released in the United States on December 24, 2021 by Sony Pictures Releasing, under its Columbia Pictures label. Tom the Hand 5 received positive reviews from critics, who praised its visual effects, performances, humor, originality and animation. It was a box-office success, earning $374.4 million worldwide against a budget of $80 million.

The final installment of the film, Tom the Hand 6 was released on November 18, 2022.

Visual effects

Visual effects and animation were provided by DNEG and Movie Land Digital Production Services (MLDPS). Kyle Odermatt serves as the visual effects supervisor of the film. In an interview, he revealed that pre-visualization, lidar scanning, light stage technology are extensively being used. An extensive visual effects work took place for more than six months during the post-production process. The post-production work is moving at a brisk pace.

Music

Henry Jackman returned to composed the film's music score, while Skywalker Sound returned to record the sound services. The soundtrack was digitally released on December 21. 2021, by Sony Classical Records.

Release

Tom the Hand 5 was originally scheduled to be released on March 25, 2022. In June 2021, it was pushed forward to December 24, 2021, replacing Sally Bollywood.

Home media

Tom the Hand 5 was released on demand on March 29, 2022, followed by the DVD, Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray on April 26, 2022, by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, 82% of 173 critics gave the film a positive review, with an average rating of 8.65/10. Using a weighted average calculator, Metacritic assigned the film a score of 65 out of 100, based on 109 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews.

In December 2020, Movie Land Animation Studios unveiled that the sixth film would be the final installment and it was released on November 18, 2022, in the United States.
