Voltron is a 2022 American science fiction action adventure film based on the characters by World Events Productions and produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Movie Land Animation Studios. Directed by Chris Williams, the film stars Tyler Posey, Neil Patrick Harris, Maya Erskine, Bryan Cranston, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jorge Diaz and Ewan McGregor.
Voltron premiered in Chile on May 20, 2022, and was theatrically released in the United States on May 27, 2022 by Sony Pictures Releasing. The film received positive reviews from critics for its performances, visual effects, direction, humor. action sequences and LGBT representation. Voltron was a box-office success, earning $763.4 million with a $50-125 million budget, which received several box office records upon its release. A sequel is in development.

Visual effects and animation for Voltron was provided by DNEG, Movie Land Digital Production Services (MLDPS) and Scanline VFX. James Yang was announced as co-director in September 2021.
Release[]
Voltron was originally scheduled to be released on May 28, 2021 in the United States. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States in February 2021 and to avoid competition with Disney's Cruella, the release date was delayed indefinitely. In June 2021, a new release date of May 27, 2022 was announced. In theaters, Voltron was accompanied by the JH Movie Collection short film, California Girls.

Voltron was released on DVD, Blu-ray, and Ultra HD Blu-ray on August 30, 2022, by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

In the United States and Canada, Voltron was released alongside The Bob's Burgers Movie and Top Gun: Maverick, and is projected to gross $50-125 million during its opening weekend.
Critical responses[]
On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, 94% of 130 critics gave the film a positive review, with an average rating of 9.35/10. Using a weighted average calculator, Metacritic assigned the film a score of 81 out of 100, based on 101 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".
